Upon signature of the accession document by the president Bolsonaro, Brazil has become the latest country to join the system for the international registration of marks administered by WIPO. As a consequence, in the process of filing an international application under the Madrid Protocol, trademark owners will be now entitled to extend protection also to the Brazilian territory (with no need to file a separate application with the Brazilian Office). The Madrid System will enter into force for Brazil on October 2, 2019.
