New rules for the label "Made in Italy" for clothing

The Italian House of Representative passed, with 543 yes and one no, a bill whose purpose is to introduce a new regulation for the textile, footwear and leather goods on the label "Made in Italy". The bill would introduce a system of mandatory labeling able to inform consumers on the origin of each stage of manufacturing and to promote the traceability of goods. The text approved by the House states that "the labeling of finished products and intermediates made by the producing company must provide a clear and concise information on the compliance of specific processes with the relevant rules regarding employment, on the certification of hygiene and product safety, on the exclusion of the use of minors in the production, and on the compliance with the European legislation and the international environmental agreements. The entry into force of this reform, which now goes to the Senate, would allow Italy to acquire greater bargaining power within the European Union negotiations on a new European regulation on mandatory labelling.
