Parmigiano Reggiano vs Parmesan

The long-standing issue of "Parmesan", one of the most famous cases of usurpation of denomination of origin, comes to the fore: the use by Italian and foreign producers of the name "Parmesan" to mark cheeses not originating in the area of production established by the specification for Parmigiano Reggiano.
A practice strongly contrasted by Italian institutions that support the fight against Italian sounding and counterfeiting also through the use of new technologies such as blockchain, funding, also provided for in the Decree on Growth, in favor of national consortia operating in foreign markets in order to ensure the protection of the originality of Italian products and information campaigns aimed at allowing the immediate identification of the italian product in respect to others products.
This time the subject of the dispute is the attempted registration in New Zealand of the brand "Parmesan" by the multinational Kraft, an attempt opposed, through the filing of an opposition, by the Consortium of Parmigiano Reggiano, holder in that country of the trade mark "Parmigiano Reggiano" registered for more than 20 years.
